Vice President of Research

‘Pops’ Papa Rao is the VP of Research for NY CREATES, an affiliate of RF-SUNY, and is based at Albany, NY.

Pops and his team have been developing superconducting devices for quantum technologies and neuromorphic computing at 300 mm wafer scale, leveraging the unique capabilities of the Albany NanoTech complex.

He is the principal investigator on R&D projects funded by AFRL, US Department of Energy and others. Previously, he has had technical leadership roles at SEMATECH, IBM Research and Texas Instruments. He obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT in 1996, after getting his Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.

He has authored over 50 papers in conferences and journals, and is co-inventor on over 50 US patents.
