Dr. Cherkaoui, a faculty member with over three decades of experience and a progressive leadership role spanning more than 15 years, has been recognized as one of the world’s top 2% according to the Stanford Elsevier 2023 Report. His extensive research has led to the publication of over 200 publications, including the groundbreaking micromechanics textbook published by John Wiley and the nanotechnology textbook published by Springer. Dr. Cherkaoui’s international accolades include tenured professorship at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Endowed Chair Professorship at Mississippi State University, and Endowed Chair Professorship at Long Island University. He has also received the France Medal from the National Center for Scientific Research, the Obama Award through the Material Genome Initiative, and the Lorraine Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer. Beyond his research, Dr. Cherkaoui has actively mentored and supported over 50 Ph.D. candidates and post-doctoral fellows, many of whom have progressed to tenured or tenure-track positions at esteemed research institutions like the Georgia Institute of Technology and various U.S. national laboratories. Dr. Cherkaoui’s academic accomplishments have also resulted in appointments to the Boards of Trustees across multiple industries, reflecting his commitment to advancing scholarship and fostering innovation in his field. Funding for his research has been secured from prestigious organizations such as the NSF, DoE, the European Commission, and industry partners. Dr. Cherkaoui has held esteemed positions on the Editorial Boards of ASME and the International Journal of Plasticity. Furthermore, he has actively participated in the program committees of numerous conferences. Dr. Cherkaoui’s leadership portfolio encompasses both research and education. During his tenure at Long Island University, he made significant contributions to the institution’s growth by assuming pivotal roles across its diverse academic landscape. He collaborated closely with Deans from various Schools, including Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Professions, Veterinary Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Public Health, and numerous centers, departments, and vice presidents. Together, they played a pivotal role in driving advancements in research, education, and infrastructure.
