Dr. Shan is CEO and co-founder of TunaBotics, a deep-tech startup that commercializes compliant manipulation technologies based on dynamically tunable adhesion. Dr. Shan is an Associate Professor at Syracuse University (SU), on leave for academic year 2025-2026. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2012. His research group focuses on Smart, Hybrid, Active, and Nature-inspired Materials, Mechanics, and Machines. Dr. Shan received the NSF CAREER Award for his work on dynamically tunable dry adhesion in 2023. Over the last decade, Dr. Shan has spent significant time working on entrepreneurship projects supported by NSF and NASA programs such as I-Corps, Partnership for Innovation (PFI), and SBIR, for launching TunaBotics.
